William "Bill" Calvin Johnson Jr., age 74, of Amarillo, died September 11, 2023, in Amarillo, surrounded by his family.
A memorial service will be held at St. Stephens Church of Amarillo on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 10:00 AM. The Rev. Ken Cole will officiate.
Bill was born on October 18, 1948, in Lubbock to his parents, William C. and Mae L. Johnson Sr. He attended high school in Colorado Springs but graduated from Tascosa High School in 1967. He went on to attend West Texas State University.
In 1997, he married the beautiful Marte Looper in Sevierville, Tennessee. The couple complimented one another very well. They enjoyed spending time together, especially in the mountains.
He retired from Owens Corning in 2009 after thirty years of service.
Bill loved all things guns, from gunsmithing to shooting; he was always intrigued by them. He was very conservative and didn’t mind debating politics! He also enjoyed golf and meeting his buddies for breakfast at Calico County. One of his favorite things was spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly. His family and friends will deeply miss his great sense of humor and love.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill is survived by his wife Marte; a son, Adam Looper, and his wife Amanda; a sister, Sandy Crawford, and her husband Lloyd; two grandchildren, Ivan and Sammy; and a third grandchild, Emma, who is on the way.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to a favorite charity.
