Ada “Aileen” Brewer Shrum, age 90 of Amarillo, died on December 25, 2013 in Amarillo, TX.Gravside Services will be held on Friday, December 27th at 1:00 PM in Mountain Park Cemetery, in Mountain Park, Oklahoma. The Rev. Billie Brewer will officiate. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Aileen was born in Ipswich, England, the daughter of the late Albert and Mabel Smith. She completed high school in Ipswich and was pursuing a career as a pharmacist when World War II broke out in England. She met a young American, Master Sergeant, Billie B. Brewer and they were married in April of 1944.
In 1947, Aileen and their oldest son, boarded the Queen Mary and traveled to the United States of America to join her husband in Oklahoma where she and Billie raised three boys; Billie who was born in 1945, Terry who was born in 1947 and Wayne who was born in 1949.
She delighted reaching out to others, helping friends and neighbors in any way she could. She was involved in her community; volunteering her time and serving on various boards throughout her life. She was an active member of the First Methodist Church in Mountain Park, OK.
Aileen loved flowers and tending to her garden but her true joy came from her family. She delighted in her sons, daughters-in-law and her precious grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne; her first husband Billie Brewer and her second husband Glen Shrum.
Aileen is survived by her sister, Joy Boast of Ipswich, England; her son, Billie Gene Brewer; daughter-in-law, Sue Brewer; grandson, William Shane Brewer and wife Shanna; her great- grandchildren, William Grady Brewer, Holland-Rae Aileen Brewer and Lydia Gene Brewer; her son, Terry James Brewer; daughter-in- law, Edith Brewer; her grandson, Billie B. Brewer; and her nephew B.J. Messick and his wife JoAnn.
The family suggests that memorials, in lieu of flowers be made to The Craig Retirement Community, 5500 SW 9th Ave, Amarillo, Texas 79109; BSA Hospice c/o the Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation 1600 Wallace Blvd, Amarillo, Texas 79106; or to Mountain Park Cemetery Association, 1201 Highway 183 N, Mountain Park, Oklahoma 73559.
