Al Rushing Myers, 83, went home on Saturday, April 10, 2021. He was born April 22, 1937 in Canyon, Texas to Elias and Pauline Myers. He married Mary Rose Eilers in 1963 at the Joseph A. Hill Memorial Chapel on the West Texas State campus. They built their home in Baytown where they raised their daughter Laura Elizabeth.
Services will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Groom, Texas on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 1:00pm with Father Raj Samala officiating. Al Myers will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Groom next to his late wife, Mary Rose Eilers Myers. Arrangements made by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia Street, Amarillo, Texas.
Al graduated from West Texas State in 1959, then enlisted in the Army until his honorable discharge. He worked as a bank auditor for the United States Government, then Vice President of Bayshore Savings and Loan, but found his passion in his final career as a Veteran’s County Service officer helping numerous Veterans.
In retirement, he and Mary Rose traveled the country extensively, visiting 47 states. Their most cherished trip was spending four months in Alaska in 2006.
After Mary Rose passed away on June 20, 2009, Al continued his love of travel. Along the way, he was fortunate enough to find his second love, Dixie Edwards of Lincoln, California. Together, the two continued the adventure, and created many more beautiful memories.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elias and Pauline Myers, beloved true love, wife Mary Rose (Eilers) Myers; sister-in-law Eileen Carnes and her husband James Carnes, and brother-in-law Harry Buster.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Laura Kuehler and husband Ronald, their four beautiful grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth, Alex Anthony, Damon Michael and Stephen George Kuehler of Groom, Texas and his loving dog, Roxie. He is also survived by his second love Dixie Edwards of Lincoln, California; brother Elo Myers and wife Sharyn of Conroe, Texas, and sister Barbara Buster of Canyon, Texas. He will also be missed by numerous in-laws, Theresa Eilers and husband George Coble of Houston, Texas, Janell Eilers and husband Andrew Frankel of Dallas, Texas, Fredrick Eilers and wife May of Fredericksburg, Texas; James Eilers and wife Barbara of Houston, Texas, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and loving friends all across the United States and Canada.
Pallbearers will be Lauren Elizabeth, Alex Anthony, Damon Michael, and Stephen George Kuehler. Honorary pallbearers will be Elo Myers, George Coble, Andy Frankel, and William Frankel.
