Albertine Durham Leediker, 101, was born October 5, 1911, in Houston County, near Crockett, Texas to Dora Stead and Albert Durham. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 14, 2013.
Albertine graduated from Crockett High School in 1929 and was employed by J. M. Dyer Department Store in Corsicana before becoming a full-time wife, homemaker and mother. She lived independently in her own home until age 99.
Upon moving to Amarillo in 1954, she joined the Saint Paul United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Koinonia Class. When she could no longer attend services, she continued with her daily Bible reading and held her own personal communion service each morning. She loved traveling and was an avid camper.
Her Christian faith and positive attitude are attributes that will always be remembered. She described her life as, “a house of memories,” and was heard to say, “At the end of the day, say your prayers and name all the things you’re thankful for – and I have a lot.” Her strength and encouraging words will long be a source of inspiration to family and friends.
Albertine was preceded in death in 1980 by her husband of 50 years, Lois A. “Gus”, and in 1987 by her only son, Lois A.” Gus”, Jr.
She is survived by nieces and nephews; special friends Barbara and Rex Solomon and Carolyn and Darell Fansher, their children and grandchildren; and life-long friends, Helen Gray, Kathey and Ed Comer, and Katie Comer.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo with Rev. Perry Hunsaker officiating.
