Allen Enoch Herron, 89 years old went to be with Jesus on Thursday, July 29, 2021.
Allen was an only child born January 4, 1932 in Nashville, TN to Enoch and Rebecca Herron. He attended various schools but spoke highly of his time at the Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, TN. He also attended West Texas University in Canyon.
Allen served 4 years from 1951 to 1955 in the United States Air Forces as a first airman during the Korea War at Alaska Air Command Elendorf AFB.
Allen was an educator, teacher and elementary Principal in the Amarillo Independent School District for 33 years from 1957 to 1990.
Allen married Sue Harryette Eppler on June 19, 1953. They had celebrated 50 years of matrimony before her passing on October 21, 2003. This union gave him 2 children, 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Allen remarried to Pat Rhame on August 12, 2005, gaining 4 additional children, 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Allen enjoyed woodworking (mostly making lots of saw dust), painting, all kinds of music, dancing, Dallas Cowboys, WT Buffalo’s, traveling and reading, some would even say he was a walking encyclopedia. His fondest memories were Christmas times with the family.
Allen was no stranger to anyone - loved people and they loved him. A true gentleman, a very soft spoken, laid back, easy going man that loved teaching to all walks of life. He has made countless lifetime friends through his academy days, teaching days and his worshiping days at United Methodist and Hillside Christian Church, where he was the first one baptized. Allen’s absence will be felt by so many, so deeply for a lifetime.
He is preceded in death by his parents and previous wife.
Allen is survived by his wife of 15 years, Pat; daughters, Jeanna Hembree (Budd) of Gore, OK; Montie Samora (Doug Justice) of Amarillo, Crystal Underwood (Jackie) of Coldwater, KS., and Tracy Butler (David) of Pampa, TX. Sons, Brian Herron of Amarillo and Bryan Thompson (LeAnn Albert) of Lewisville, TX.
