Alma Jo Moore, 75, of Amarillo died Wednesday, July 17, 2013.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 20, at St. Stephen United Methodist Church, 4600 S. Western, with the Rev. Ken Cole of St. Stephen United Methodist Church and Dr. Ron Muller of Wildorado officiating. Burial will be in Palo Duro Cemetery, Wildorado. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Jo was born April 6, 1938 in Amarillo to Alma Forest Moore and Mildred Moore. She was raised in Wildorado and attended school in Wildorado, graduating from Vega High School. She received a BS from West Texas State University and obtained a Masters Degree in Education from Southwestern University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. She was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority where she participated at the National level and was a member for 50 years.
Jo taught 4th grade and special reading classes at Vega Elementary school for several years, was a reading specialist for Region 16, and was administrator of several US Government programs in Education. Upon retirement, she was consultant to several schools in the Texas Panhandle and New Mexico on Federal grants and contracts.
She served as an EMT with Vega Ambulance for many years and served as a certified EMT trainer in the Texas Panhandle, assisting many volunteers to get their EMT certifications. She was a member of Wildorado United Methodist Church and upon its closing, she became a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church of Amarillo.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include a brother, Ben Moore and wife Joann of Wildorado; nephew, Kyle Moore and wife Sheila of Amarillo; niece, Gina Bailey of Arlington; great-nephews Ben Moore of Amarillo, Kevin Bailey of Lubbock; great-niece, Cara Bailey of Lubbock; and uncle, Billy B. Moore and wife Marge of Wildorado.
Visitation will be from 6-7:00 p.m., Friday, July 19, at Schooler Funeral Home.
