Alma was born August 25, 1944 in New Braunfels, Texas, to Raul and Guadalupe Martinez. She spent her younger years in south Texas, then moved north with her family in her childhood to the Panhandle and graduated from Plainview High School in 1965. She continued her education at Southwest Business School. Things changed for Alma when she began correspondence with a young soldier by the name of Carlos Sepulveda, who was serving in the Vietnam War. His letters captured her heart, and they were married on June 26, 1971 at St. Alice Catholic Church in Plainview. Their love story continued for over 45 years and continues today.
Nurturing, generous, devoted, and faithful are words used to describe this loving woman. Alma was not only devoted to her family and career, but first and foremost, to her faith. She was a long time parishoner of St. Laurence Catholic Church. Alma lived her life guided by her faith and set examples of humility, kindness, friendliness, and compassion to everyone she met. She also had a multitude of talents: cooking, quilting, and sewing are just a few.
Alma had a passion and advocated for children and persons with special needs. She spent twenty two years in the Amarillo ISD as a special education aide. She worked in several schools; however, the last ten years of her career were spent at Wolflin Elementary, where she formed many lasting relationships.
The family would like to would like to express their gratitude for the care they received from Dr. Masoud Alzeerah, Dr. Raj Saralaya, Dr. Milton Giron, the staff of DaVita Dialysis Center, and the doctors’ staffs while treating her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Raul Martinez, Jr.; a sister, Yolanda Chavez; and a sister-in-law, Veronica Martinez.
Alma is survived by her husband, Carlos; her daughter, Sara Sepulveda of Amarillo; her son, Carlos Sepulveda, Jr. and wife Sadie of Lake Jackson; her sister, Mary Portillo and husband Jose of Amarillo; her brother Rolando Martinez of Ft. Worth; her granddaughter, Jasmine Sepulveda, and numerous nieces and nephews.
