Alton “Roy” Clift, 85, of Amarillo, passed peacefully on November 19, 2024.
A funeral service will be on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Crossroads Country Church, 14425 Farm to Market 1541 with Rev. Bob Miller officiating. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Fairmont Cemetery in Lamar, Colorado, at 1:30 PM Mountain Time
Roy was born on March 14, 1939, to Hubert and Edith (Mayberry) Clift in Plainview, Texas. He was raised in the Texas Panhandle and took up Rodeo at a young age, competing in the Bareback Horse riding events primarily, but in all honesty, he was an all-around cowboy.
Roy began driving a truck early in his adult life, and that would ultimately become his career. He hauled cattle for Plains Trucking of Amarillo and later freight for Wal-Mart Distribution Centers. Roy logged many miles throughout his life. He was an adventurous man. He loved to hunt and fish as often as he could. The outdoors was his peace.
Roy also had a great love for a good hamburger. No one messed with his burgers and he made them exactly how he liked them. He was also a talented musician that could play just about anything on the guitar. He was ornery as could be and would pick at you until you had enough, and then get you one more good time. But aside from all of this, he was a God-fearing man. Roy worshiped the Lord and was solid in his faith. He was a member of Crossroads Country Church for many years.
Roy is preceded in death by his wife Cindy June Clift, his parents, son Chase Allen Clift, daughter Cindy Kay Martinez, brother Alvin Clift, and daughter in law Tracy Clift. Those left to cherish his memories are his sons Dusty Clift and wife Tina and Shannon Clift, sisters Juanita Wheeler, Judy Bradshaw, and LaQuita Mayberry, brother Leon Clift and wife Kathy, as well as his eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
