ROSARY SERVICE will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 4th at ImmaculateHeart of Mary Catholic Church in Groom.
FUNERAL MASS will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 5th at Immaculate Heartof Mary Catholic Church. The Celebrant will be Rev. Raj Samala.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler FuneralHome, 4100 South Georgia.
A. J. Newsom was born in Happy, Texas on April 1, 1928 to Harvie and Carrie Newsom.
He attended Wayside Schools. He served in the United States Army during the Koreanconflict. He was a long time resident of Groom, moving to Amarillo in 2002. He marriedLeona Britten Babcock of Groom on August 25, 1972. An avid fan of all types of sports, he played inminor league baseball. A.J. farmed and became a windmiller.
He supported team sports of every type and watched his children and grandchildren play. He and Leona loved to travel, visitingEurope, Alaska and many other far away places. He was a gentleman in every sense of theword and had tremendous love for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Kirksye Cope, and a son Jimmy Dale Babcock.
Survivors include his wife Leona, three daughters; Kay Pratt and husband Cary of Claude, Linda Williams and husband Garvin of Amarillo, and Bunny York of Groom, two sons; Dan Babcock and wife Rebecca of Robertson, WY, and Jack Cagle and wife Alison of Pampa, two sisters; Neta Ann Todd, and Laraine Melton both of Tulia, seven granddaughters; Christi Olson and husband Clint of Canyon, Jo Lee Junell and husband Brandon of Amarillo, Karen Loughran and husband Sean of Rochester, MN, Stephanie Farris and husband Adrian, Bobbi Shae Baskett and husband Jeremy all of Amarillo, Chelsea Pratt of Dallas, Tifini Williams of San Antonio, three grandsons; Amos Babcock of Anchorage, Alaska, Andy York and Melissa of Colorado Springs, CO, and David York of Amarillo.
