Andrew Cleveland Lyle, 81 of Amarillo died Tuesday, August 4, 2015.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, August 7, 2015 in Anna Street Church of Christ with Mr. Gene Shelburne and Lyndon Latham officiating. Burial will follow in Dreamland Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Andrew was born May 15, 1934 in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas to Grover Cleveland and Mary Bertha (Bushong) Lyle.

Andrew attended Rankin Elementary and Rankin High School in Rankin, Texas. He attended Odessa College for two years studying Engineering. Andy did roughnecking in the oilfields but decided not for the rest of his life. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a BS in Petroleum Engineering. He worked at various jobs to put himself through college. He went to work for Phillips Petroleum Company in Phillips, Texas in 1957. Andy married Beverly Gwen Douglass Sunday, October 26, 1958 at the Monroe Street Church of Christ in Borger, Texas.

Andy enjoyed working for Phillips Petroleum but decided to return to Texas Tech where he worked for Southwestern Public Service Company in the meter department. He received his Masters in Mechanical Engineering. Beverly worked as a bookkeeper for Sunshine Biscuit Company and was a member of a group of women who received their PHT Degree when their husbands graduated. (Put Husbands Through)

Andy worked for Southwestern Public Service in Amarillo before moving to Phoenix, Arizona where he did graduate work in Electrical and Civil Engineering while working for Arizona Public Service Company for two years.

From 1970 to 1973 he was a computer programmer for Mason and Hanger.

Andy then worked for different engineering firms, some changed the company name as one person retired and another person became a partner in the new business. The companies include: Hollis Harris Engineering; McMorries and Associates; Parkhill Smith and Cooper; Patterson and Ellett; and Ellett and Gaynor. He has been employed by Thomas and Israel Civil Engineers.

In December 2014 after being off work he fell near where he lived. The result was a partial hip replacement and many days of trying to recover in hospitals and convalescent places.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents Sara (McSpadden) and Samuel O. Lyle, and Zora (Cox) and Andrew Jackson Bushong and other relatives, including Greg Williams and “Shorty” Williams.

Survivors include his wife Beverly Lyle, his cousins Jack McCormick of Valley Center, Kansas and his family; and Nancy (McCormick) Williams of Tahoka, Texas and her family; George Bushong family of Odessa, Texas, and many other relatives as well as Beverly’s brother and her extended family whom Andy was very fond of.

Andy and his wife are life members of the Lubbock Model Railroad. He is also a member of the Amarillo Railroad Museum; Scot Free Model Railroaders; Panhandle Bluegrass and Old Tyme Music; American Society of Mechanical Engineers and National Fire Protection Association; the local Scottish and Celtic Group and two other groups. Andy could play guitar, violin, fiddle, piano and many other instruments. At one time he was a Big Brother to a Little Brother. He has been a Registered Professional Engineer for more than 50 years.
