Ann Greear Bacon, age 90, of Amarillo, peacefully died surrounded by family on February 14, 2025.

The celebrant will be Rev. Anthony Neusch.  Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Ann was born on October 15, 1934, in Kiowa County, Oklahoma, to her parents, George and Edith Avarilla Pilcher Greear, before moving to Amarillo, Texas, where she would spend much of her life. It was in Amarillo that she met the love of her life. From the moment she laid eyes on him walking down Polk Street, she knew without a doubt that he was the one she was meant to marry. Their connection was immediate and undeniable. On April 26, 1956, they married, beginning a life full of love and shared dreams. Together, they built a family, and she embraced the joys and challenges of raising five children, always striving to create a home filled with warmth, love, and support.

At one point, she felt too old to attend college, but despite those feelings, she pushed forward and earned a bachelor's degree with a double major in Political Science and Psychology, as well as a Bachelor's in Social work. However, her greatest academic achievement came when, in her 30s, she earned her high school diploma. This accomplishment was a powerful testament to her resilience and determination, showing that it’s never too late to pursue education and follow one’s dreams, no matter the obstacles or age.

After completing her education, she spent her professional life at Catholic Family Service, where she worked with compassion and commitment until her retirement. Her time there was marked by a deep sense of purpose as she helped others and made a difference in her community. After retiring, she fully embraced her role as a grandmother, dedicating her time to being a loving and devoted "full-time Grandmama." Her career and family life were marked by service, dedication, and a strong sense of love and responsibility.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, James Richard Bacon, three brothers, Orville George, Laurence, and Jimmy Greear, and granddaughter Jana Lynn Bacon.

Ann is survived by her children, Catherine R. “Chelly” VanWinkle and husband, James of Elgin, OK, William O. and wife, Jeannette of Amarillo, Elizabeth A. Musick, and husband, Mark D., James R. Bacon Jr., and wife Teresa, John E. Bacon II  and his wife Tracy all of Amarillo; two sisters, Danna Lawson of Albuquerque, NM and Millie Beals and her husband Richard of Amarillo; thirteen grandchildren, Melanie, Barbara, Kevin, Nathan, Brandy, Valarie, Jessica, Olivia, Bryan, Jennifer, Brittney, Nickalous, and Felicia; seventeen great-grandchildren, ShyAnne, Sarah, Erick, Avery, Cadence, Brianna, Desiree, Naomi, Dawn, Chord, Adeline, Noah, Barrett, Penelope, Nate, Drew and Ricky: and four great-great-grandchildren, Aleah, Theodore, Brooklynn, and Alaynah.
