Ann Hicks, 92, of Amarillo, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Amarillo Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Church, 4901 Cornell, Amarillo, Texas.
Ann was born on November 8, 1932, in Columbus, Ohio, to Willis and Luella (Knowlton) Neuwirth. She graduated from Ohio State University in 1955 and then earned her Master’s Degree in Social Services from West Texas State University in 1982. Ann dedicated more than 40 years of her life to social work, serving communities across Texas, California, Arizona, and New Mexico. After her retirement, Ann continued to volunteer at the Amarillo Downtown Women's Center for many years.
She was an active and devoted member of the Amarillo Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Church (AUUFC) and proudly participated in organizations such as the League of Women Voters, the National Association of Social Workers, and RSVP.
Ann had a deep love for travel, music, performance arts, and nature. She enjoyed art exhibits, sports, and volunteering for various organizations, as well as curling up with a good book. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her beloved family. Her fondest memories were the births of her sons and five granddaughters and cherished gatherings with family and friends. She lived her life guided by her favorite motto: “Love is the Greatest of All.”
Ann is survived by her sons and their families: Malcolm and Heather Hicks, with their daughters, Lauren and Julia. Geoff and Betsy Hicks, with their daughters, Ella, Georgia, and Vivian.
In lieu of flowers, Ann requested that donations be made to either the Wildcat Bluff Discovery Center or the Downtown Women’s Center.
