Ann Lynn Sadler Hill, 78, of Amarillo, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 3, 2010.Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 5, 2010, at Polk Street United Methodist Church. Rev. C. Lane Boyd, Senior Pastor and Rev. Kevin Deckard, Associate Pastor will officiate. Private burial will be held at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.Mrs. Hill was born to Dickerman and Lillie Amelia Sadler on October 27, 1931, in Livingston, Texas. When she was a small child, her family moved to Tyler, Texas, where she was raised. She died after a lengthy illness.She graduated from Tyler High School where she was a cheerleader. She then attended Tyler Junior College where she was an Apache Belle and the University of Texas at Austin, where she graduated in 1953, having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. After graduation, she taught school in Dallas until she met and later married her husband, Edward H. Hill, in Tyler on June 3, 1956. She then moved to Austin where she taught school until her husband graduated from the University of Texas School of Law. Upon his graduation, she and her husband and their first child, Ann Elizabeth, moved to Midland where she also taught school and had a second child, Amy Katherine. In 1963, Ann and her family moved to Amarillo where she resided until her death. Ann was very active as a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church which she dearly loved. She taught in the primary grades at Sunday School and later taught the Co-Workers Sunday School Class which was then a large class of women in the Church. She served on the Building Committee which planned and supervised a major renovation of the physical plant of the Church. She, along with her husband, was a long time member of the Life Two-Gether Sunday School Class. She served two terms as President of the United Methodist Women of the Church and also served as Chair, Treasurer and Secretary of Circle Four of the United Methodist Women. With her husband, she was an elected delegate to numerous Annual (regional) Conferences of the Northwest Texas Annual Conference and she attended General Conferences of the United Methodist Church in Louisville, KY; Denver, CO; Cleveland, OH; and Pittsburgh, PA; and she attended Jurisdictional Conferences of the United Methodist Church in Little Rock, AR; Fort Worth, TX; Albuquerque, NM; and Corpus Christi, TX. Also, she and her husband represented the United Methodist Church in Manila, Philippines, at the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Methodist Church in the Philippines. She served as an elected officer of the YWCO and as President of the Amarillo Lawyers’ Auxiliary. She had a love for playing in her bridge club and playing golf at the Amarillo Country Club where she and her husband were members. Also, she loved being with her Presbyterian friends at meetings of their birthday club and she loved being with her Methodist friends at their birthday club. She also had a great time at lunch with fellow members of the Presidents’ Club. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).Ann loved people and people loved Ann. She especially enjoyed sharing with her family and her friends many stories of her years gone by from childhood until recently and hearing the laughter of all. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends, all of whom she dearly loved.She is preceded in death by her parents; her oldest sister, Marjory; and her two brothers, Dickerman and Charles.Survivors include her husband of 53 years and nine months, their two daughters, Ann Elizabeth Jenkins and her husband, Dr. Greg W. Jenkins, of Amarillo, and Amy Katherine Butler and her husband, Thomas C. Butler, of Fort Worth; her sister, Corinne Naumann and husband, H. Jack Naumann, Sr. of Midland; five grandchildren, Jessica Ann Conn and husband, Brandon Conn, of Euless; Edward Dale (Ted) Jenkins and Gregory Cade Jenkins, both of Amarillo; and William Thomas Haynes Butler and Albert Clayton Butler, both of Fort Worth; and many nieces and nephews.The family will receive visitors at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia St., on Thursday, March 4th, 7:00 PM.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Polk Street United Methodist Church, 1401 South Polk Street, Amarillo, TX 79101, or a favorite charity.
