Ann Ousley, age 88, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on April 14, 2023, in Amarillo.
Public viewing will be on Tuesday at Schooler Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 5:30. The family will receive guests from 5:30 until 7:00 PM. Graveside services will be on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Ann was born July 18, 1934, in Des Moines, Iowa, to her parents Eugene Benjamin and Hesper Ruth Clement Ousley. From a very early age, she was eager for knowledge. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1952 and graduated from Amarillo College in 1954 with her Associate of Arts. During her time at Amarillo College, Ann was a cheerleader; was crowned Miss AC 1954. and a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. Upon graduating from Amarillo College, she enrolled at the University of Texas and graduated in the spring of 1957 with her B.S. in Elementary Education. After attending UT, she continued her education at West Texas State University and completed her Master’s Degree in Education from North Texas State University in 1970.
All throughout her life, Ann worked and studied. Shortly after graduation from UT, she began working as a grade school teacher in Corpus Christi. In 1959 she accepted a position with AISD as a Special Education Teacher, where she worked until 1962. In June of 1974, she began to work with the City of Amarillo, which would last until her retirement. During her tenure with the city, she worked as the Youth Coordinator, the Coordinator for the Texas Panhandle Library System, the Texas Library System Coordinator, and ultimately the Youth Coordinator for the Amarillo Public Library. Ann retired as the head librarian at the North Branch Library, City of Amarillo, on January 31, 1997.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her longtime companion, Roy McCoy.
She is survived by her sister Kathy Griffith and her husband Chester, her nieces Teresa Settle and her husband Phillip and Sharon Scott and her husband Jim.
