Anson Dwayne “A.D.” Ray age 88 of Amarillo, died February 23, 2016 in Amarillo surrounded by his family.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2016 in Bolton Street Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Oakley of Mescalero Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Anson was born on October 1, 1927 in Stephenville, Texas to Franklin and Pearl Ray. On September 11, 1945 he began his service in the United States Navy. Anson married Wannell Ritchie on October 22, 1948. They resided and farmed in Vera until they moved to Amarillo in 1956. At the age of 62 Anson retired from Merchants Fast Motor Lines in 1989.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Wannell in 2012, his daughter Ancella Willner, and three brothers, Emmitt, Olen, and Stanley Ray.
Anson is survived by two daughters, Glenda Butts and husband Tony and Paula Hamilton and husband Steve all of Amarillo, Texas; two sisters, Marge Johnson of Garland, Texas and Bess Wright of Stephenville, Texas; eight grandchildren, Todd Butts, Chris Hamilton, Zach and Heather Willner, Dustin and Kelsey Hamilton, and Heather and Jarred Errington, and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Schooler Funeral Home 4100 S. Georgia Amarillo, Texas 79110.
