Arah was born August 4, 1932 in Fairmont, WV. She was the second daughter out of four to Robert and Frances Hayhurst. She was married for 51 years and had two children. Throughout her lifetime she had numerous jobs from working at the Secretary of States Office in Austin, Texas as she put her husband through college, ironing clothes for people, and working as a cashier at Montgomery Wards. Her biggest job was being a stay-at-home mom where she loved taking care of her two children. After her children were grown, she took up golf. She belonged to the Amarillo Women’s Golf Association where she held numerous positions in the league. She was lucky enough to get a hole-in-one at Ross Rogers Municipal Golf Course before her golfing career ended. She and her daughter played in many tournaments together, and even ended up winning a couple. During the last 12 years of her life she volunteered with several hospice programs; the last being with Kindred Hospice, which ended up assisting her as her health declined.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and her husband – Barbara Jane and Delmar Rumsey, and brother in-laws David Shumaker, Robert Wilson and Frank Coban.
She is survived by 2 sisters, Helen Shumaker of Mason, Ohio and Mary Dorcas Coban of DelRay Beach, Florida; her two children – R Craig Hugus and wife Johnna of Sherman, Texas, and Kimberly Gutierrez and husband Greg of Amarillo, Texas; four grandchildren – Brandy Gutierrez Radney and her husband Russell, Thaddeus Gutierrez, Carla Hugus Thomas and Ryan Hugus; five great grandchildren – Reece, Seighlyr and Sky Radney, Tagan Gutierrez, and Asher Cline-Gutierrez.
