Arthur Lee Ashley went to his Heavenly Home on Monday, June 25th, at the age of 97.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2018 with his Grandson, John Ashley, Pastor of San Bernardino Baptist church officiating at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel 4100 S. Georgia in Amarillo. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.
He was born June 26th, 1920, in Elm Mott Texas, to Albert (Bert) Ashley and Annie Dovie (Hewett) Ashley. Lee enlisted in the U.S. Naval Service in 1942 as a Signalman on the USS CHANDALIEUR (AV-10) during World War ll. The CHANDALIEUR earned five Battle Stars for actions she participated in the Asiatic-Pacific Area, earning Medals for each operation. After the Navy Lee met Betty Jo Camp, from Grosbeck, TX. They married in 1948 and had three children: Carol, Mark, and Darla, then moved to Amarillo in 1962.
Lee worked for National Cash Register for several years before he and Betty owned and operated Amarillo Cash Register. They serviced clients across the panhandle for 18 years, retiring in 1985. Lee enjoyed his family very much. Playing music with his brothers was one of his favorites, going fishing, and weekends spent at the river with everyone riding their own motorcycle to name a few, and he always had plenty of time to spend with his grandchildren doing whatever they wanted to do!
Lee is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Betty Jo Ashley, and two Grandsons: Brian Lance Chambers and Clint Trey Brown. After Betty Jo went home to Heaven in 1999, he met and married Margaret Hanna in 2001, she had two children: Gayle and John.
Lee is survived by his 3 children: Carol Chambers of Amarillo, Mark Ashley and wife Jeanne of Lubbock, Darla Brown and husband Don of Borger, his wife, Margaret Hanna Ashley of Amarillo, her Daughter, Gayle Morris of Amarillo, and Son John Hanna and wife JoAnne of Canyon, 13 Grandchildren, and 26 Great Grandchildren.
