Barbara Julia Bourg, age 93 of Amarillo, died September 15, 2015 in Amarillo.
A Rosary will be said on Friday evening, September, 18th at 6:30 PM with a Vigil Service following at 7:00 PM at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 19th at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Celebrant will be Rev. Scott Raef with concelebrants Msgr. Harold Waldow and Msgr. Joseph Bixenman. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Barbara was born January 18, 1922 in Denver to Albert Leroy and Augusta Anna Siebers Motch. The family moved to Amarillo where Barbara attended and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy, where she was an active participant of the St. Mary’s Alumni and the PTA/ HSA throughout her life and that of her children.
She married the love of her life, Roy Bourg at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Amarillo on April 11, 1945. The couple met while Roy was serving at the Army Air Corp Base and Barbara was a volunteer for the USO. They were married 59 years before his death in 2004.
Barbara was an accomplished organist for many churches in Amarillo; Sacred Heart Cathedral, St. Mary’s, St. Joseph’s, St. Hyacinth’s, and St. Laurence Catholic Churches. She also worked as a secretary at the rectory at St. Josephs and St. Mary’s before retiring from US Life Insurance Company
The family was a founding member of St. Hyacinth’s Catholic Church. She and Roy loved to dance! Barbara loved people and delighted herself in serving others, especially the church and her family.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, five brothers and her husband Roy.
She is survived by three daughters; Vanessa Rauscher and her husband Jim, Ramona Giromini and her husband Ken all of Amarillo, and Linda Brandt and her husband Jim of San Diego; her son, Kennan Bourg and his wife Rose of Euless; her brother Francis Motch of San Jose, CA; ten grandchildren, Ann Marie Ball and her husband Ryan. John Rauscher and his wife Chassity, Jamie Brandt, John Brandt and Joe Brandt and his wife Mary, Tasha Giromini, Tyla Giromini and Trisha Giromini and Christopher Bourg and April Rose Bourg; and two great grandchildren, Logan and Trinity Rauscher.
The family suggests memorials be made to St. Mary’s Cathedral, 1200 S. Washington 79102 or BSA Hospice c/o Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation, 1600 Wallace Blvd. Amarillo 79106
