Barry “Papaw” Lee Proffitt age 61 of Amarillo died October 27, 2016
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Barry Lee’s life will be held today at 2:00 PM at 3511 Masterson Rd., Amarillo. We would like you to come share your favorite memories.
Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Barry was born March 2, 1955 in Dalhart, Texas to Hugh Dumont and Cora Ellen Proffitt. He graduated Dalhart High School in 1973. On November 29, 1974 Barry Lee married his friend and forever love, Mary Pat Womble.
At the age of fifteen Barry started working as a welder. He worked in the oil fields and the pipelines. He had worked for the past eighteen years with Venable Construction out of Dumas that contracted with Pioneer Natural Resources.
Barry enjoyed life; especially the simpler things, a cold drink, and time spent with his family. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent much of his free time hunting, reloading and shooting at the Amarillo Gun Club.
He was a member of the NRA and ATA. Although he had many talents and passions, his world revolved around his family and he adored his grandchildren.
Barry was preceded in death by his father on November 4, 1989 and by a brother, Monty Lynn Proffitt on December 1, 2009.
He is survived by his wife of forty one years, Mary Pat; his daughter, Crystal Lynn Proffitt Acklin and husband, Mark of Amarillo; his sons, Barron Heath Proffitt and his wife Brooke Lynn of Bedford and Sheldon Lee Proffitt of Amarillo; his brothers, Kirk Allison Proffitt and his wife Lisa of Dumas and Baby Proffitt and his wife Keile of Dalhart; his grandchildren, Brayden Patrick, Katelyn LeAnn
