Bart E. Gonzalez of Amarillo passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014.
Rosary will be said on 6:00 PM Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 27, 2014 in St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral with Rev. Ken Keller as celebrant. Interment will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Bart was born January 16, 1929 to John Gonzalez and Mary Kinder Gonzalez in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Bart’s family was originally from Castile, Spain and he was from a family of 9 siblings. He worked for the railroad while attending college and later attended Purdue. He moved to Amarillo in 1957 and worked for the City of Amarillo. In 1957 he started AMTEX Communications and AMTEX Dispatch which he sold in the 1980’s. After that he owned Digital Paging for 10 years and then retired. Bart enjoyed electronics, trains, his lawn, which was always meticulously landscaped, and his sib dinners. Bart was an honorable man who always put family first and was a staunch Catholic. He was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral and the Knights of Columbus Council 1450. Bart was highly respected and loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and four brothers and a son, John Christopher Gonzalez.
He is survived by his wife; Patsy Gonzalez; daughters Roni Swindell and husband Patrick of Amarillo, Dana Gonzalez of Dallas and Jane Bass and husband Mark of S. Orange, New Jersey; son Randy May and wife Diane of Amarillo and sister Mary Leonard of Indianapolis, IN; eight grandchildren Tyson and wife Sarah, Fabiola and husband Paco, Rachel and husband Cullen, Erica, Trevor, Alexandria, Russ, Max and Nathaniel and two great grandchildren Charlotte and Jackson.
