Dub was born December 20, 1922 in Porter, NM to Benjamin and Nellie Robinson. As a young boy, he attended San Jon schools where he excelled in sports. At the age of 17, he worked for the Matador Ranch as a cowboy, driving cattle through New Mexico and Texas. He later joined the US Navy and fought during WWII. He met and married Clesta Marie Kelly on August 10, 1946 in Tucumcari. They worked on the LX Ranch during their newly married years.
He worked as a road grader for Potter County, and then owned a welding shop where he built trailers. He was later employed at ICX Motor Freight as a truck driver for over twenty years. During his working life, he never lost his love for the cowboy way of life. He was an avid sports fan. He raised calves and was a member of the Rolling Hills Riding Club. He played basketball in the Amarillo Men’s League. He enjoyed carpentry and working with his hands. He was a member of Southlawn Baptist Church and the Men’s Sunday School Class.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Beulah Mae Reed and two brothers, Raymond Robinson and Virgie Robinson.
He is survived by his wife Clesta; one son, Rex L. Robinson and wife Mary of Lewisville, TX; two sisters, Becky Manesco of Amarillo and Pearl Vaughan of Canyon; one brother, Frank “Frog” Robinson and wife Mary of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emily and Jeremiah, and three great-grandchildren.
