Benny “Ben” Hargis, 84, died Tuesday, November 5, 2013 in Amarillo.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 8, 2013 at South Georgia Baptist Church with Bob Miller officiating. Private family burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Benny was born May 11, 1929 in Achille, Bryan County, Oklahoma to Victor Lynn and Bessie Cole Hargis. He married the love of his life, Dolores Cannon on October 25, 1952.
Benny served in the Army in the Korean War. He worked for Southwestern Public Service for 42 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Palo Duro Masonic Lodge, an ordained Baptist deacon, and a member of South Georgia Baptist Church. Benny was an avid golfer, having made two holes-in-one.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Bill Hargis, Loretta Stone, Tommy Scoggin, and Peggy Farley.
Survivors include three sons, Ken Hargis and wife Irene, Ronny Hargis and wife Lou Ann, and Jim Hargis and wife, Annette; nine grandchildren, Mary Landry, Melissa Burdick, Ben Hargis, Victoria Hargis, Zachary Hargis, Nicholas Hargis, Ki Hargis, Ryann Hargis, and Sydni Hargis; and one great-grandchild, Ellie Burdick;
