Bessie Ruth Holcombe

Ruth L. Holcombe age 98 of Amarillo died January 7, 2013 in Amarillo.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 11th at 10:00 AM at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel.  Rev. Steve Gaines of Covenant Fellowship will officiate.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Ruth was born December 30, 1914 in Cisco, Texas.  In 1946 she married Jesse L. Holcombe and moved to Amarillo.  She worked at the American National Bank from 1949 until her retirement as trust administrator officer in 1976 after 28 years of service to the bank.

To say that Ruth enjoyed Bridge, was an understatement, she was passionate about it; and was a member of the Women’s Federated Club and several other Bridge clubs.
She was a charter member of the Heritage Sunday School Class and a longtime member of San Jacinto United Methodist Church.

The family will receive guests on Thursday evening from 6 PM until 7 PM at the funeral home.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and her husband, Jesse.

She is survived by two daughters, Janet Lawton and her husband Ed of Terrell, TX and Mary Frances Lindsay and her husband Bill of Paris, TX, two nieces, Cynthia Ruth Williams of Houston, Texas and Sandy Laney of Columbia, SC ; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; two great nieces; and many other loving friends whom Ruth considered family.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to Covenant Fellowship, 1713 South Avondale 79106 or the charity of your choice.
