At age 65, this was a first for Betsey Marie Chernick. Of all the fights she started (and finished) the one she had with her health was the first and only fight she lost on Friday.
She is survived by her husband, her son(s) and ton of wayward kids along the way who needed a mother’s love. Born in Orlando, Florida and raised in Georgia she was a true southern belle that could literally speak in idioms and old southern sayings. She was never at a loss of words and loved a good dirty joke, for example, “You know a man’s a keeper if he can bust the bottom out of a mason jar” which we still don’t quite understand and frankly plan to keep it that way.
To her every stranger was just an opportunity to make a new friend -which was impossibly embarrassing to her kids- and how she constantly ended up in crazy situations like the time she ended up at a spa hanging out with “some popular singer musician boy” who we are fairly certain was Justin Timberlake.
Her hobbies included, HSN Shopping, spoiling (and embarrassing) her son, conspiracy theories, getting into trouble, and saying “but bless their heart” after shi*t talking about people she disliked.
She always dreamed of having a massive New Orleans-style funeral with a marching band, dancing pallbearers and sobbing family members throwing themselves on her coffin but unfortunately it’s impossible to play a trumpet with a medical mask on.
One of her biggest pet peeves was people taking pictures at funerals so a viewing and service will not be held to avoid this, and frankly we think she would be furious if we picked the wrong outfit. While she was a rebel at heart she would be the first to say “put on your damn mask around my kids,” so we will be having a private memorial and encourage any of you to contribute a written memory or favorite quality of her to RIPBetseyMarie@gmail.com (really, we set this up, so please share if you knew her)
In honor of Marie, a private tribute to her life will be held on her birthday on Wednesday, July 29 from 2-3:30 pm at a private residence: 3521 Tripp Ave.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions and for the safety of our immunocompromised family members the family asks that guests bring a mask and limit the amount of time during their visit to no more than 20 min.
