Betty Joy Oglesby

August 31, 1929 — October 19, 2016

Betty Joy Oglesby, 87 of Amarillo went to be with her family Wednesday, October 19, 2016.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 24, 2016 at St. Stephen United Methodist Church, 4600 S. Western St., with Dr. Stan Cosby officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Betty was born on August 31, 1929 to Emma Gene Jackson and Frederick E. Jackson in Phoenix, AZ. She grew up in Ralls, TX where her mother taught school. She also lived in Canyon, TX where she graduated from high school at West Texas High. She met her husband JW “Bill” Oglesby and they married December 20, 1945. She worked for Farmers Home Administration for 18 years drawing blueprints and taking loan applications for farmers. After she left FHA in November of 1963 she went into Real Estate in 1964. She opened up her office in 1966 and worked until she decided to go to nursing school at the age of 45. She was President of Women’s Council of Realtors and a member of the Realtors Association. She later went back to school and received her nursing degree from Amarillo College. She worked for North West Texas Hospital NICU for 19 years until she retired. She always referred to the little babies as hers and the she was “Grandma Betty” to them when no one else could get them comfortable. Oh how show loved the little ones. She was a member of Saint Stephen United Methodist Church, Bridgebuilders Sunday School and United Methodist Women-UMW.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kay Lynn Windsor; a twin sister, Peggy Goodman; a brother, Fred Jackson; and her parents.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Jean Ann Hill and husband Raymond, and Maribeth Tyler all of Amarillo; her son, Bradley Oglesby of Stephenville; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two nieces; two nephews; and many great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 3-4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Schooler Funeral Home.
