Betty was born September 14, 1927 in Hamilton, OH to Joseph and Mary Huser. She graduated from Mt. Healthy High School in Cincinnati. Betty married Kenneth Stevens on Thanksgiving Day, 1946. Betty was a homemaker while her children were young, and they lived in many places across the United States with fond memories of the six years they spent in Hawaii. In 1970 she and Ken settled in Amarillo, Texas where the family later opened Meatland Inc., a specialty meat market , that they retired from in 1994. Betty and Ken were founding families of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, and she was the first Vice President of the St. Thomas Altar Guild. She volunteered for many years with the Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospital Auxiliary. Betty was affectionately known as “Mamaw” and “Meme” by her grandchildren and was a wonderful cook and gardener. Her favorite times were spent with family and lots of grandchildren gathered in her home.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Stevens in 2005, her parents, one sister, Clara Stehlin, and five brothers, Duke, Doc, Lou, Rich and Al Huser.
Betty is survived by 2 daughters, Patricia Summers and husband Mike of Ft. Worth and Michelle Smith and husband Derek of Amarillo; 2 sons, Daniel Stevens and wife Linda of Rockport and Kenneth Stevens and wife Ruby of Ft. Worth; grandchildren, Christopher, Christie, Bud, Benny, Jason, Weston, Nichole, Jessica, Mackenzie, Mason, Carson and Reese; and 16 great-grandchildren.
