Betty Wiggins was born in Springer, NM to Pedro and Seferina Archuleta. She was raised in Clayton, NM where she met and married the father of her four children. Newlywed, Betty Archuleta-Vigil moved to Amarillo in 1970.
Betty was a loving and dedicated person. Her smile would warm your heart, her eyes lent compassion that calmed your worries, and though her words were few, they were genuine and unforgettable. Betty was well known for her kind heart and spiritual beliefs. She was an active member of St. Joseph's for many years. However, she had recently been welcomed as a member of St. Thomas and enjoyed great comfort and spiritual guidance from Monsignor Tash, Bob and Elsie Wieck, and the congregation.
Betty led a simple life that revolved around her family and friends. She gave love and encouragement freely and sincerely from her heart and expected nothing in return. Her children were always her pride and joy.
Through the years, Betty completed several courses at Amarillo College before deciding to become a barber. In 1988, Betty Archuleta-Wiggins remarried and graduated from West Texas Barber Styling College with a Certificate of Merit.
Betty owned and operated South Western Avenue Barber Shop for many years. The Barber Shop was nestled in amongst other shops on the 5100 block of Western. Her shop was one of a small handful of old fashioned barber shops that remain in Amarillo.
Many of Betty's customers came to be treasured friends which brought her great joy through the years. Betty was blessed to share many smiles and memories with her friends. It was these friendships that allowed her to love what she did. The loyalty, generosity, and compassion of her friends was always humbly appreciated. Many thanks to Jerry and Brenda Funk of Jerry's Barber Shop for extending a warm welcome to Betty's customers in their own old fashioned barber shop.
Many special friends touched her heart that came through the barber shop; however, the family of shopkeepers adjacent to her Barber Shop and the Thompson family became an extension of her own family. Billy and Jody Thompson, and their two wonderful sons, Austin and Tate, held a special place in her heart.
Betty and her daughter, Mary Tess, genuinely appreciate BSA Home Hospice and their professional staff. We will forever hold a special place in our hearts for the quality of care and compassion extended by Linda B., Kayla C., Sharon W, and the rest of the hospice family.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Seferina Archuleta; brothers, Michael, Lebrado, Tony, and Pete Archuleta; and sister, Josie Gonzales.
