Bettye Jo Herrmann, 90, of Amarillo, Texas, passed on Saturday, April 29, 2023. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 2 at St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 South Coulter, with a rosary following at 7:30 PM will officiate. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Llano Cemetery.
Bettye was born June 25, 1932, in Amarillo to Max and Ernestine O’Brien. Bettye graduated from Amarillo High School in 1950. She attended Texas Christian University and the University of New Mexico. She married Dick Herrmann in Amarillo on August 22, 1953. She was a founding member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic church. She taught at St. Mary’s Catholic School for many years as a substitute. Bettye enjoyed playing tennis and bridge.
Bettye was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, in 2001.
She is survived by her children, Rick Herrmann and wife Anne; DeAnna Williams; Barbara Martin; Steve Hermann and wife, Susie; a sister, Nancy Foreman, as well as five grandchildren, Rickie Herrmann, Kirk Herrmann, Michael Williams Desiree Martin and Preston and Blaine Herrmann; and four great-grandchildren, Garrett, Claire, Haillie, and Opal. The family also wants to mention Larry Peters; his supportive friendship meant the world to Bettye and Marsha Herrmann for her friendship.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Presbyterian Children’s Home or a favorite charity.
