Bettye was the daughter of Claude and Lieu Cantrell and grew up in Quitaque.
She married A. R. “Dude” James on April 19, 1950 in Silverton, while living in Quitaque and they moved to Amarillo in 1951.
She worked first as a cashier, then as a bookkeeper for Piggly Wiggly and later at Waco Woodworks until she retired in 1994.
Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Letha Mae Jacobs.
Survivors include two sons, Ron James and wife Debra of Amarillo and Gary James of Seattle, WA; a nephew, Grady Jacobs and wife Velma of Amelia Island, FL.; three grandchildren, Paige and Ben James, and Kortnee Hohensee.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Seville Estates and Odyssey Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion for Mom the past several years.
