Betty "Gene" Massey

Betty “Gene” Massey, 93 years young, was welcomed into heaven on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 in Amarillo.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Bell Avenue Baptist Church, 5211 Bell St. with Pastor Danny Logan officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Gene was born April 21, 1924 in Tulia to Howard and Mabel Edwards. She married the love of her life, Ansel Z. Massey on February 7, 1942 in Amarillo and enjoyed 44 years of marriage .

Gene loved her Lord with all her heart and enjoyed singing in the choir and playing the piano at her church. She had a servant's heart and was always volunteering and serving others through Bell Ave Baptist Church, where she was a proud charter member. Her greatest blessing was her family and she cherished each and every one. She also enjoyed sewing, camping, crossword puzzles, crafts, ceramics and bowling.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sons, Lynn Eldon Massey and Richard "Dwaine" Massey; four brothers; two sisters; and one grandson, Brian “Todd” Massey.

Gene is survived by one daughter, Brenda Reese and husband David; two sons, Sheldon Massey and wife Julie, and Lyndon Massey and wife Beverly, all of Amarillo; one sister, Phyllis "Tooty" Squyres of Amarillo; seven grandchildren - Darin Massey of Leander, TX, Brad Massey of Round Rock, TX, Shanna Massey of Amarillo, Damon Massey of Amarillo, Kelly Massey of Amarillo, Jarrod Reese of Kingwood, TX and Bethany Mojica of Boston, MA; seventeen great-grandchildren, Taylor, Camron, Zach, Timothy, Nathan, Collin, Madison, Ryan, McKenna, Carson, Audreyenne, Alec, Ava, Wyatt, Cannon, Henry and Winston; one great great-grandchild, Morgan; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bell Avenue Baptist Church, 5211 Bell Street, Amarillo, TX 79109.

A visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2018 at Schooler Funeral Home’s Brentwood Chapel.
