Beulah Wayland McInnish

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24th, at the Chapel at First Baptist Church, Plainview. Dr. Travis Hart, Pastor of First Baptist Church, Plainview and Dr. Paul Armes, President of Wayland Baptist University will officiate. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia, Amarillo.Born November 3, 1908, Mrs. Beulah McInnish was the daughter of Rosser Winn and Beulah Wayland Winn, the oldest daughter of university founders Dr. James H. Wayland and wife Sarah.Raised by her grandparents, Mrs. McInnish grew up, in Plainview, with Wayland Baptist University. She herself attended the University briefly and has been a long time supporter of the place that meant so much to her grandfather.Mrs. McInnish graduated from Plainview High School and attended Plainview Business College. She married James Grafton McInnish in November, 1927.  She was retired and had been employed by the J.C. Penney Company in retail sales and was the bookkeeper for her spouse’s radio and TV repair business, Plainview Chevrolet and the Wayland Hotel. She was a long time member of several civic clubs including the Hale County Historical Commission, Plainview Senior Citizens, N.O.N. Club, Women’s Forum, Knife and Fork Club and numerous supper and bridge clubs in Plainview. Mrs. McInnish was an avid flower gardener and enjoyed traveling with her spouse and his sisters. She was a member of the Pastor’s Sunday School Class and a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in Plainview. She resided in Plainview until 2006 at which time she and her sister-in-law Dorothy E. McInnish relocated to Amarillo, Texas. Mrs. McInnish dedicated herself to the advancement and support of Wayland Baptist University founded by her maternal grandfather Dr. James H. Wayland. She celebrated her 100th birthday, in the year 2008, the same year Wayland Baptist University turned 100. She passed away leaving a rich heritage and a family who loved her dearly on March 19, 2010. She was preceded in death by her spouse, James Grafton McInnish, his sister Katherine Pulley, her parents Rosser I. and Beulah Wayland Winn and her maternal grandparents Dr. James H. and Sarah Wayland. Survivors include cousins;  Mary Dean Adams of Glenrose, Texas, Linda Lees Adkins of Plainview, Texas , Betty Boone of Anthony, New Mexico, Jep Housley of  Silver City, New Mexico, Bill Lees of Lubbock, Texas and James Robert Wayland of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is also survived by nephew George Grafton Pulley of Albuquerque, New Mexico, great nieces Dorothy Elizabeth Walker of Amarillo, Texas, Roberta Pollock and Renee Turner of Mustang, Oklahoma and Marilyn Tumlin of Cummins, Georgia.The family will receive visitors on March 24th, at First Baptist Church of Plainview in the Church Chapel from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Dr. James H. Wayland Endowed Scholarship, Wayland Baptist University, PO Box 1621, 1900 West Seventh, Plainview, Texas 79072.
