Beverly Van (Wilkinson) Hanlon 76, passed away Saturday, October 29th, 2011.
The family will receive friends at 6:00P.M. – 7:30P.M. Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Services will be at 10:00am Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church (Amarillo) with Pastor Schatte officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 PM MT in Des Moines, N.M. cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Mrs. Hanlon was born Jan. 2, 1935 in Des Moines, N.M. to the late Van B. and Lydia Virginia (England) Wilkinson. She was a 1953 graduate of Des Moines High School, a 1956 graduate of Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing with a RN degree, and a 1993 graduate of West Texas A & M University with a BSN.
She married Bruce Leslie Hanlon, June 30th 1956 and they lived only in Amarillo. They celebrated 55 years of marriage.
She worked as an operating room nurse for 17 years at Northwest Texas Hospital and 23 years, at the V.A. Medical Center in the OR, ICU and PACU. She retired in 1997 after a most rewarding career.
Mrs. Hanlon was baptized into the United Methodist Church at an early age and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church Dec. 31, 1956 where she remained an active member until she went home to be with the Lord. She was: a Volunteer Parish Nurse, a member of the Women’s Missionary League, the Social Ministry and the church choir. She was an active member of Panhandle Professional Writers for many years and several Nursing organizations. She loved her lord, family, country, profession, photography, writing, cooking, music, the arts and life.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters Peggy Elaine Wilkinson on Dec. 12, 1934, Patricia June Wilkinson on March 29, 1939 and Mildred Wilkinson Gill, March 24th, 2009.
Survivors include her husband Bruce, two sons, Douglas Hanlon of Smithfield, VA John Hanlon and wife Shelly of Norco, CA, one daughter Leslie Hanlon-Harris and husband Kevin of Wainui, New Zealand, five grandchildren, Mikenzie Hanlon of Norco, CA, Cameron Harris of Dunedin, N.Z., Nicole, Nick and Billie Cook of Norco, CA, two sisters, Dorothy Smith of Gordon, GA. and Carol Jeanne Jones of Des Moines, N.M., many nieces, nephews and cousins.
