Bill was born October 23, 1947 in Wilkesboro, NC to Cleo and Lola Golden. His family moved to Texas, and Bill graduated with honors from Amarillo High School in 1966. He graduated from Texas Tech with honors with a degree in computer science. He married Judy Thompson in July of 1971 in Colorado Springs. He began his career with the US Postal Service as a postal inspector. He was a computer programmer for SPS and Corporate Systems before returning to the US Postal Service as a postal clerk, greeting each customer as a friend. He was a member of Hillside Christian Church. He was devoted “Grandpa Bill” to his two grandchildren, and his world revolved around the grandkids. He was a huge science fiction fan. He enjoyed collecting antiques, especially coins. He loved to dance and enjoyed attending the Christian Singles dances. He was known as the “best waltzer around”. Bill tinkered with everything and was a great handyman.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cleo, in September of 1989.
He is survived by his two sons, William Jeffrey Golden of Lubbock and Craig M. Golden and wife Christina and their mother, Judy Clemmer, both of Amarillo; two sisters, Tonya Riley and Katie Hagerman, both of Amarillo; his mother Lola Golden of Amarillo; his two grandchildren, Sara and Christian Golden, his special friend, Janie Braddock; and a large extended family
