Billie Rachel Hamrick, 94, of Amarillo, died January, 19, 2019.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3402 S. Jackson. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.
She was born June 21, 1924 in Comanche, Oklahoma to the late John and Gertrude Dew. Billie attended high school in Lockney, Texas. Upon graduation she moved to Amarillo where she attended business school. She worked at the Pantex Ordinance Plant during World War II. Later she worked for Panhandle Fruit, Churchill Laboratories, and retired from ATMOS Energy.
She fell in love and married Joe D. Hamrick on August 3, 1946. They were married over 72 years until his death in 2018.
Billie enjoyed following Joe’s sports career and the athletic activities of her three sons. For 15 years she was the official scorekeeper for youth baseball teams.
She attended hundreds of sporting events for her sons and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed ballet performances of her granddaughter Lauren. She was an attentive ‘MamaDear’, playing various card games and making her grandchildren fried chicken after all the outdoor activities had been played out.
She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church & Ye Olde Squares Dance Club.
She enjoyed needle point and other handicraft projects. Special interests included attending Amarillo Symphony performances and traveling with Joe D. and their close friends to various places around the country. She was well known for her homemade ice cream which was made for any occasion and year round.
Billie is preceded in death by her husband Joe D., her parents and siblings, J.P. and Olena.
She is survived by her three sons, Michael Hamrick of Amarillo, Marty (Kari) Hamrick of Amarillo, Randy Hamrick of Dallas, six grandchildren; Lauren (Henry) Yoshawirja, Charlie Hamrick, Peter Hamrick, Dane (Bethany) Hamrick, Joseph (Katherine) Hamrick & Aidan Hamrick and five great-grandchildren; Irelyn, Bradley, Kason, Kinsley & Keegan. She is also survived by many nieces & nephews.
The family would especially like to thank the Craig Senior Living Community and BSA Hospice of the Southwest for the love and care provided to Billie and Joe over the past four years.
