Billie Nance Kunkel age 89, of Amarillo died on July 13, 2012.
Viewing will be at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Amarillo, Texas, on Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, with Pastor Curtis Cadenhead officiating. Burial is at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Billie Nance Kunkel, beloved wife and mother, was the eldest of three children born to A. D. and
Winnie Mae Nance. She was born January 11, 1923, in an oil patch tent near Sunray, Texas.
Her family moved to Amarillo, where she was educated, graduating from Amarillo High School in 1940. She was preceded in death by her husband of twenty five years, O.B. Robbins whom she married in 1945. She earned an Associate's Degree in Business from Amarillo College. As a lifetime active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, she was honored to serve in each office multiple times. She served diligently on the Board of Amarillo Crippled Children's Association. Mrs. Kunkel felt blessed to be a charter member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Amarillo where she served faithfully in the choir, pianist for the men's class and a member of United Methodist Women. She was honored to be a board member of YWCA.
Mrs. Kunkel began her working career as Secretary/Treasurer and pianist for the Downtown Lions Club. She later worked for Panhandle Insurance Agency and was promoted to Executive Assistant to the chief operating officer. While there, Mrs. Kunkel campaigned for and was elected to the office of Potter County District Clerk, where she served over twenty years until her retirement. She served proudly in both the State and National Clerks' Associations where she was honored by Governor John Connally as well as Presidents Johnson, Ford, Carter and Reagan.
She married and spent twenty-five loving years with Calvin M. Kunkel, until his death.
Mrs. Kunkel is survived by her siblings, James R. Nance of Amarillo, Texas, and Beverly Jo Jenks of Lubbock; her son, Greg Robbins of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren, one niece and three nephews. She is also survived by Calvin's children, Debra and Monte Kunkel of Amarillo, Mike Kunkel of Virginia, Calvin's six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Admired, celebrated and loved on earth, Jesus has prepared her a home with her loving parents and beloved Calvin.
