Bill E. Irwin, 82, of Amarillo died Monday, January 05, 2015.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM. Thursday in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 2:00 PM. in Lake Tanglewood Community Church with Dr. Roger A. Hubbard officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.
Bill was born in Amarillo to Earl and Faffie Irwin. He attended Amarillo High School, where he played trombone in the Sandie Band. It was on a band trip to Enid, Okla., that he met his future wife, Celia A. McCartney, who also played in the Sandie Band. Bill and Celia were married in 1951.
Bill worked as a draftsman in the oil and gas industry for over fifty years, retiring in 2000. He was devoted to his family which always included a cat or two. Bill had a passion for radio controlled model airplanes for seventy years and was active in the Amarillo Radio Kontrol Society. He also enjoyed, camping, boating and fishing or traveling in his Winnebago.
Bill was a member of Lake Tanglewood Community Church, the South Amarillo Kiwanis Club and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. He also was a Master Mason of the Khiva Shrine and played his trombone in the Khiva Swing Kings Stage Band.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Celia, on May 30, 2013.
He is survived by his two daughters, Carolyn Corbet and Linda Hollar and husband Harlon; his two sisters, Joan Lawrence of Georgtown, Texas and Sandi Driskill of Albany, Georgia; four grandchildren, Johnnie and Danny Corbet, Jeremy Hollar and Jennifer Wall and their spouses; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Carol Simpson of Amarillo.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Vibra Hospital.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM today at the funeral home.
