Jayne Brainard, of Amarillo died, February 3. Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Msgr. Joseph Tash as celebrant. A reception will follow in the church parlor. Private family entombment will be at Llano Garden Mausoleum.

Jayne Brainard was born November 1, in Amarillo, Texas to Evelyn (McLane) and Bill Cross Dawson. She graduated with a degree in English from Oklahoma City University where she met her husband Ernest Scott Brainard.

Jayne led a long active life contributing and leading civic, state and national organizations. Local civic work kept her busy when her children were young. She was a board member of the Amarillo Fine Arts Council and Amarillo Heart Association, steering committee member for National Library Week as well as Revitalize Amarillo Commission; she contributed to Amarillo Camp Fire Association as a guardian plus the Leaders Association and board of directors. Jayne was parliamentarian before elected as president of the St. Anthony's Hospital Auxiliary. Other local committees included Historic Markers Taskforce and the Amarillo Chisholm Trail Centennial.

Her leadership experience continued as president over the years for the following organizations – the Amarillo AAUW chapter, Starlighters Dance Club, Speaking of Living Study Club and Junior Travel Study Club, Panhandle Geological Society Auxiliary and the Amarillo Country Club Ladies Golf Association.

An active member of Amarillo Republican Women, Jayne held board offices-holding the record for the most number of terms as president (5). She assisted with the monthly ARW "Trunkline" plus worked polls during elections, met with area elected officials and lent a hand to ready supply boxes for U.S. troops overseas.

A long standing member of the Daughters of the American Revolution her accomplishments included chapter regent, numerous local, state and national offices and chairmanships including Texas State Regent and National Recording Secretary General. She was instrumental in organizing new DAR chapters in Amarillo and the Panhandle. While holding these offices and chairmanships she edited and published a Texas DAR cookbook then compiled and edited four volumes of Texas Daughters Revolutionary Ancestors. She received the Martha Washington Award and the National Sons of the American Revolution presented her with the Medal of Appreciation for her contributions to genealogical and patriotic work.

Jayne was the organizing president for the Amarillo Children of the American Revolution chapter and was appointed to the NSDAR National Speakers Staff and was appointed as the area representative. Jayne's membership in other genealogical/patriotic organizations included United Daughters of 1812, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of American Colonists (organizing regent) and Daughters of Colonial Wars.

Jayne was a strong supporter of the local Arts. She served as president of Lone Star Ballet, BRAVO, Inc., Opera, Inc. and Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation. She was a Harrington House Mentor and was appointed the Mentor Coordinator. However, her first love was Amarillo Little Theater. Actively volunteering in many capacities with ALT since the 1960s she was president when they "burned the mortgage". Jayne continued on as a frequent board member and committee member. She was always, there to lend a hand as a production partner, sell concessions, or help set up for special events. Jayne was proud to be a part of such a vibrant, ever evolving organization.
Jayne was a Registered Parliamentarian and for some years one of only two with this designation in the Panhandle. She was a member of the Texas Association of Registered Parliamentarians and National Association of Parliamentarians and International Association of Parliamentarians. Jayne's professional acumen was valued by local and national organizations. She instructed parliamentary law classes, assisted with bylaw creation and used this expertise to counsel the facilitation of conventions, board meetings and shareholder meetings.

Her accomplishments and contributions were noted consistently in publications that include WHO'S WHO in the South and Southwest as well as Who's Who International and National volumes.

Jayne and Ernie enjoyed many trips with close friends and family to Europe, China, and points between - with golf a large part of many excursions.

She is survived by daughter Sydney Brainard, and dear friends, Joyce Reid, Jane Juett, and Danny Jackson; and preceded in death by husband Ernest Scott and son Bill Dawson Brainard.
