Bonita Berry, 90, of Amarillo, passed peacefully in her home on August 14, 2024.
Public viewing hours will take place on Sunday, August 25, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. The family will receive guests from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at the Church of Christ at the Colonies, 4500 Wesley, on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Bonita was born to Maud and Oscar Ragan on August 13, 1934, in Wheeler, Texas. She attended high school in Wheeler, Texas. Bonita moved to Amarillo in 1952 to attend Draughon’s Business College. And she wanted to find her a man!
Shortly after moving to Amarillo, she met Eldon Berry on a blind date. Their connection was instant, and six weeks later, they were married. Their love story spanned over the next sixty-two years and nine months, a testament to their enduring love and commitment to each other.
Bonita was an avid bridge player and a skilled bowler, but her true passion was her faith. She loved her church and attended every Sunday when able, a testament to her deep-rooted faith and commitment.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Eldon Berry, her brothers Oscar Ragan and Lee Ragan, her sister Doris Callison, and her daughter Reida Sandridge.
She is survived by her son, Richard Berry and his wife Judy of Montgomery, TX; her two daughters, Ronda Hixson and her husband Kenny of Oklahoma City and Robin Hinnant and her husband Jon Mark of Amarillo; her grandchildren, Brandon and Bethany Berry of Montgomery, TX, Bryan Berry and his wife Lindsey of Houston, Kenda Hixson, Kyler Hixson and his wife Rachel of Oklahoma City, Jordan TeBeest and husband Mitchell of Amarillo, Ryan Hinnant of San Marcos, Jada and Juliana Sandridge of Amarillo, and her great-grandchildren Spencer Williams, Cherry Comley of Montgomery, Cayden, Cameron and Fern Berry of Houston. Plus, precious nieces, nephews, and friends, including her lifelong friend Dian Beck of Amarillo.
