Bruce L. Hanlon 87 passed away Thursday, January 17th, 2019.
The family will receive friends 7:00P.M. to 8:00P.M. Monday, January 21st, 2019 at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Services will be at 10:00am Tuesday, January 22nd, at Trinity Lutheran Church (Amarillo) with Rev. Dr. Brian Hesse officiating. Burial will be at approximately 2:00 PM MST in Des Moines, N.M. Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Mr. Hanlon was born September 21st, 1931 in Martville, New York to the late Nathan E. Hanlon and Bessie A. (Peckham) Hanlon. He was a 1951 graduate of Medford High School, Medford, Minnesota and upon graduation joined the United States Air Force.
He married Beverly Wilkinson Hanlon, June 30th, 1956 in Des Moines, N.M. They lived and raised their family in Amarillo. They had three beautiful children and celebrated 55 years of marriage together.
He served in the Korean War, as a crew chief on jet fighters. After leaving the military, he worked at several local Amarillo businesses. He retired in 1994 from the US Dept. of Interior – Amarillo Helium Operations, after 30 years of service. He had a keen aptitude to diagnose and repair mechanical issues and operated a small engine repair business until well into his seventies. In his later years, he enjoyed sharing coffee and conversation with his circle of friends.
Mr. Hanlon came to know the Lord due to the efforts of an Air Force military chaplain while stationed at Wichita, Kansas. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Dec. 31, 1956 where he remained a member until he went home to be with the Lord. He served as a Sunday school teacher and had been an active member of numerous boards for many years. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and eight siblings.
Survivors include his two sons, Douglas K. Hanlon of Amarillo, TX. Colonel John P. Hanlon and wife Shelly of Norco, CA, one daughter Leslie Hanlon-Harris and husband Kevin of Wainui, New Zealand, five grandchildren, Mikenzie Hanlon of Norco, CA, Cameron Harris of Dunedin, N.Z., Nicole, Nick and Billie Cook of Norco, CA,.
