Carl DeWitt Hare, 84, died on Sunday, September 10, 2017 in Amarillo.
Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Murray Gossett officiating. Private interment will be held at Llano Cemetery. Military Honors presented by Volleys for Veterans. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Mr. Hare was born on September 20, 1932 in Amarillo to Carl Deck and Zula Hare. He was a 1950 graduate of Amarillo High School. He went on to receive a Bachelor degree from Oklahoma University in 1954 where he met his college sweetheart, Berenice Homer. They married on June 10, 1954. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1957. He and Berenice had four children together; Christopher, Kevin, Randall, and Christi. Christopher passed away on May 3, 1964. Carl and Berenice enjoyed 30 years together. Berenice preceded Carl in death on July 11, 1984. Carl married Linda Sue Latham on July 11, 1986. They shared 29 years together. She preceded him in death on April 16, 2015. Since 1965, Carl owned and operated The Nunn Company, formerly known as Nunn Electric. Carl enjoyed many things in life. He was very active and passionate about golf, flying and fishing. He loved to read, work crossword puzzles and trivia games, his favorite being Jeopardy. He was also an avid gun and knife collector.
Carl was known as the epitome of a true gentleman. He was kind and generous to all, but never wanted any recognition for it. He was known for his positive attitude and loved to make people laugh. He was a devoted friend to his fellow Bivins residents. Carl loved his family and was loved dearly by them. He was a deacon at First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo.
Carl is survived by his children, Kevin Hare and wife Linda of Amarillo, Randall Hare and wife Tina of Amarillo, Christi Hare King and husband Kelly of Amarillo, Kathy Price Dryden and husband John of Amarillo, Christian Price Frazer and husband Kip of Austin, Rep. Walter Thomas “Four” Price and wife Karen of Amarillo; one brother, Bruce Hare and wife Linda; his grandchildren, Kelsea King Lancaster and husband Zack, Colton King, Jacob King, Lexie King, John Hare, Christina Hare, Price Ashley and wife Ava, Reaves Ashley, Abby Price, Curry Price, Brooke Barnhill, Cody Barnhill, Katie Dryden Smith and husband Craig, and Matt Dryden; and five great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Bivins Pointe for their incredible care.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the funeral home.
