Carlton "Clem" Frederick Clemens, “The Silver Fox of Amarillo, 92, went home to heaven with the angels on Tuesday, November 15 th , 2022.
Born September 28 th , 1930, in Texarkana, Texas to loving parents Inez and Claude Clemens, Clem attended Texarkana High School and was a talented football star. Following graduation, Clem proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. During the Korean War Clem was a tail gunner on the B-29 aircraft.
Following the war, Clem attended the University of Colorado in Boulder where he played football and met the love of his life, Pamela Ketler. They were married at Polk Street United Methodist Church in Amarillo, Texas on September 3
rd
, 1955. Over the next six years Clem and Pam lived in three different cities and welcomed their two beloved children, Lisa and John. Following his career at Phillips Petroleum, Clem decided to become a realtor and in 1971, Carlton Clemens, Realtor, Inc. was founded, and his long and esteemed real estate career was launched.
Throughout his career Clem was an active member of the Amarillo Board of Realtors and served as their President in 1977. In 1988, Clem was awarded Realtor of the Year and was Amarillo's first realtor to ever receive Realtor Emeritus status in 2020. Upon his death, Clem was the longest serving member of the Amarillo Board of Realtors.
As a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, great uncle, and friend of many, Clem lived, loved, and enjoyed life to the fullest. His participation in Polk Street United Methodist Church and Amarillo Rotary Club were some of the greatest joys of his life.
Clem is preceded in death by his parents, Inez and Claude Clemens, his sister Ennis Lee Phillips, his wife Pam, his daughter Lisa, and son-in-law Brent Foster.
He is survived by his son John Clemens and wife Bitsy. Clem was a loving Grandaddy to his three grandchildren Auburn Clemens Pope and husband Philip of Plano, J.C. Clemens, Jr. And wife Katrina of Houston, Reagan Clemens and wife Annie of Newport Beach, California; his seven great-grandchildren P.D., Jr., Lela Grace, Jack, and Clara Pope, Tripp, III and Hadley Clemens, and Otis Clemens; nieces and nephews, Doni and John Phillips, Sue and Carlos Harvey both of Texarkana, and Amy Phillips of Hallsville.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes for all donations to be made to the Amarillo West Rotary Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 534, Amarillo, Texas 79105.
