Mrs. Brewer was born on November 24, 1927 in Tulia to Merle and Myrtle Grantham. She married the love of her life, Murry L. Brewer on December 28, 1944 in Kress. They had been dating since October, Murry says, “the only reason they dated for so long was he had to convince her he was the one!” They began their life together farming, but soon Murry was called into the ministry. Carmelita was completely devoted to her husband and their children. She could always be found at Murry’s side. After the children were grown, Carmelita worked in real estate in Midland. They moved to Amarillo in 1986 to be closer to family. For the next eight years the couple lived at and managed the Clairmont Retirement Residences. They would have celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary in December.
Carmelita was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Melody Lynn; and two brothers, Leslie Merle and Don Lee Grantham.
She is survived by her husband, Murry L. Brewer; two sons, Rick Brewer and wife Kathy of McKinney, TX and Larry Brewer and wife Sue of Amarillo; two sisters, Jodie Edwards and Barbara McGlurg both of Tulia; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
