Carol Ann Pemberton, 85, of Amarillo, passed away July 30, 2021
Ann was born on June 8, 1936 in Denison, Texas to Robert and Vivian Pemberton. She graduated high school in Sherman, Texas. From there she attended Cortland State Teachers College in Cortland, New York, Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, WV, and earned her M.E.D. at West Texas State University.
Ann taught in Baltimore County, MD, before moving to Amarillo in 1959. She began a career with AISD that would span over 35 years. She taught Language Arts, Social Studies and English at Crockett, Sam Houston, and Bonham Junior Schools. Her last six years teaching were spent at Amarillo High School.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert Dale Pemberton in September 2011, a sister, Kay Taft in May 2014, and a nephew, Alan Pemberton.
Ann is survived by her cousins, Dr. Wayne DeLaney and wife Maxine of Denison, TX; Alyce Brunson of Arthur City, TX and Jerry Shipp of Georgia; a sister-in-law, Diane “Dede” Pemberton; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Taft of Rockport, TX; a nephew, David Jamison and wife Teri of Rockport, TX.
Family suggest memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 3915 Bell St Amarillo, Texas 79109, Polk Street United Methodist Church, 1401 S Polk St, Amarillo, TX 79101.
