Mrs. Blackwell was born on April 3, 1937 in Memphis, Texas to Thomas and Dorotha Crawford. Carolyn was a flight attendant for Central Airlines. This pioneering working girl met the love of her life and married Ronald Blackwell in 1959. She was a tireless volunteer with Brownies and Girl Scouts, earning Lifetime Membership in 1990. She also loved to travel, especially cruises with Ronnie to Panama and Alaska. Carolyn was a member of Lifeway Fellowship Baptist Church for almost 50 years, where she taught Sunday School and volunteered many summers for Vacation Bible School. In addition to raising her own four children, Carolyn hosted three foreign exchange students. Carolyn loved arts & crafts, and belonged to Arts Anonymous. When she wasn’t designing parade floats or flocking Christmas trees for Girls Scouts, she decorated her walls and filled her friends’ homes with oil paintings. She entertained the grandkids with projects and games and she also loved puzzles and crosswords. Her home was always open to friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Blackwell; her father, Thomas Clyde Crawford; and two brothers, Bobby Crawford and Keith Crawford.
Mrs. Blackwell is survived by her mother, Dorotha Crawford of Amarillo; two daughters, Stacy Mondt and husband Joe of Savannah, GA and Shanda Hurt and husband Chris of Little Elm; two sons, Scott Blackwell and wife Stacy of Albuquerque, NM and Steven Blackwell of Amarillo; and eight grandchildren, Haley, Claire and Ella Blackwell of Albuquerque, NM, Mark, Mercy and Micah Mondt of Savannah, GA, and Chandler and Brooklyn Hurt of Little Elm.
