Carolyn Mallett Gerken, age 88, was born to Charles Beaty and Rose Margaret Mallett on November 12, 1930 in Abilene, Texas. She graduated from Abilene High School and moved to Amarillo where she married Luke Edward Gerken. Together, Ed and Lyn raised eight children and celebrated 68 years of marriage.
Lyn loved taking care of her family. She was active as a Girl Scout Leader, baseball mom, and swim team coordinator. She was also active with the St. Joseph Catholic Church Alter Society. Lyn loved to play Bridge, Scrabble, and working puzzles. She was also an avid gardener, enjoyed arts and crafts, loved reading, and read her Bible every day.
Lyn was preceded in death by her son, Garry, her daughter, Patricia Lyn, and her granddaughter, Brittany. She was also preceded in death by 4 sisters and her brother.
Lyn is survived by her husband, Ed, 7 children, Cathe Lytle of Austin, Texas, Dan Gerken and his wife, Geneva, of Amarillo, Texas, Gayla Gerken of Amarillo, Texas, Janet Jelinek of Missouri City, Texas, Laura Briant and her husband, Terry, of Gilmer, Texas, Martha Purcell of Kingwood, Texas, and Mark Gerken of Louisville, Kentucky. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
At the time of her death, Lyn was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Her memorial services will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at 10:00 am. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
