Catherine Slavent Jones

Catherine Slavent Jones, 97, of Amarillo died May 14, 2018.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 2:00 pm, Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church 4100 S. Coulter with Rev. Hector Madrigal of St. Joseph Catholic Church as celebrant. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Catherine was born on November 29, 1920 in Monroe, Louisiana to Tom and Carmella Dstefano Slavent.

Catherine obtained a Master’s Degree in Education while raising a family of five and then taught school at Lamar Elementary, Fannin Middle School and Caprock High School in Amarillo. She was a vibrant woman with stories to tell and memories to make. She was even in a movie. She was the center of every event and an avid lover of flowers especially irises and roses. Catherine was an honored member and past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile and a loyal friend. Catherine Jones was a crazy driver, quite the landlord and an amazing admirer of art.  “Nanaw” loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She LOVED life.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters; husband Robert Lee “Bob” Jones, Sr.; and two sons, Jay Donald Jones and Jim Sam Jones.

Catherine is survived by her a daughter, Mary Catherine Gray and husband Weldon “Butch” Gray of Springville, Utah; son, Robert Lee “Bobby” Jones, Jr. and wife Pauline; Joe T. Jones and wife Pam all of Amarillo; fifteen grandchildren; thirty three great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
