Celia A. Irwin, 78, of Amarillo passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 3, 2013, at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Lake Tanglewood Community Church with Dr. Roger A. Hubbard officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, Amarillo, Texas.
Celia was born June 13, 1934, in Amarillo to Cecil T. and Martha M. McCartney. She attended Amarillo High School where she played clarinet in the Sandie Band. It was on a band trip to Enid, Oklahoma, that she met her future husband, Bill E. Irwin, who also played in the Sandie Band. Celia and Bill were married in 1951.
Celia enjoyed working as a division order analyst for Diamond Shamrock and Mesa Petroleum. She retired from Scott Brosier CPA in May 2000. She was devoted to her family, which always included a cat or two. She played the organ at her church, Lake Tanglewood Community Church, for 25 years. She enjoyed traveling in her Winnebago, boating, making beautiful scrapbooks, delivering Meals on Wheels, and needlework. Celia was a member of Texas Beta Mu Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and the Golden Girls of Beta Sigma Phi.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Bill; two daughters, Carolyn Corbet and Linda Hollar and husband, Harlon; four grandchildren Johnnie and Danny Corbet, Jeremy Hollar, Jennifer Wall and their spouses; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carol Simpson.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospice and True Blessings, LLC for their loving care of Celia.
Visitation will be from 6:30-7:30, Sunday, June 2, at the funeral home.
