Charles C. Barrett

Charles C. Barrett, Jr., age 89 of Amarillo died January 3, 2013.

The family will receive guests from 4-5 PM,  Sunday at Schooler Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Monday at the Park Place Parlor with Rev. Jerry Bell officiating.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Graveside service is Friday, January 11 at 2:00 PM at the Gunnison Cemetery in Gunnison, Colorado with Pastor Rick Barton officiating.

Charles was born on August 16, 1923 in Idabel, Oklahoma to Charles C. Barrett and Viola Bain.  He attended Amarillo High School and enlisted in the US Army in 1942 and served during WWII.  In June, 1946, he married Dorothy Porter and they were married for 53 years until her passing.

After the military, Charles was employed by SWB telephone. He and Dorothy moved to Almont, Colorado in 1960 where their son was born. Charles, Dorothy and their son Bryan built and operated CHAR-B Resort in Almont, Colorado as well as Angello’s Pizza in Crested Butte and also owned and were publishers of “The Phone Book & High Country Visitors Guide”.  He enjoyed memberships in various organizations including the Odd Fellows of Gunnison, and also served as President of the Gunnison Chamber of Commerce; President of the Gunnison Lions Club and President of the Plains Bell Federal Credit Union of Amarillo.

He was loving, caring and giving as well as an astute and wise business man.  He was the patriarch of the entire family for the past twelve years and will be greatly missed but his family finds solace because he is home with his Lord.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Dorothy; a great granddaughter, Trinity Jean-Pierre; a beloved nephew, Donald Parker; a brother Frank Barrett; 2 sisters, Charlene Jones and Georgene Gibbins and brother-in-law Clyde Gibbins.

He is survived by his son, Bryan Barrett and wife Mary Ann of Boynton Beach, FL; a beloved niece, Nancy Parker; 1 granddaughter, Erin Jean-Pierre as well as other nieces, nephews and cousins.
