Chuck was born in Morgantown, West Virginia to Charles Joe and Austa Marie Lawrence on June 9, 1930. He entered the United States Air Force in October of 1951, serving during Korea and Vietnam. He retired from the Air Force in 1973 as a MSGT after serving twenty-two years. During his military service he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, First Oak Leaf Cluster and numerous other medals. Chuck married Twila Sawyer on December 20, 1968 in Colorado Springs, CO. After the military, Chuck began a career with the Harrison School District in Colorado Springs where he worked for fifteen years. After retirement, the family traveled for a brief time then visited family in Amarillo in 1989 and never left. He and Twila joined St. Stephen United Methodist Church where they were members of the Stars Choir and the Bridge Builder Sunday Schooler Class. He also was involved in the Golden Spread Emmaus Community.
Chuck, known also as Honey, Pops and Grandpa Chuck, was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.
Chuck was preceded in death by a son, Donald Crawford in January 2009.
He is survived by his wife, Twila of Amarillo; three sons, Lloyd Crawford and his wife Sandy of Amarillo and Garland Crawford and his wife Ruth of Wheatridge, CO and James Crawford and his wife Irene of Aurora, CO; seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
