Charles Eugene Spidel

September 2, 1931 — October 13, 2010

Charles “ Charlie” Spidel was born in Wolcottville Indiana and raised the family farm. He graduated from Kendallville High School in 1949 and entered the Army Air Corps. He was a veteran of the Korean war, serving as a Sergeant / Radio operator in MATS ( Military Air Transportation Service) in Alaska from 1949-1953.He married Gloria Baldwin in 1952 and after his discharge, returned to Indiana. After a brief  attempt to farming, followed by a number of other brief vocations. Charlie found his niche  with Nationwide Insurance Company where he blossomed as a success agent, promoted to district manager in Terre Haute Indiana and Pinellas county Florida. He retired in 1994 after 30 years of employment. The last year’s retirement have been spent peacefully in Amarillo, Texas. Charlie was also a devoted Christian who was placed his faith in Christ alone for salvation. His life bore much fruit of mature faith. In addition to many years of diaconal service, Charlie’s life was marked by quiet grace, a friendly personality, a simple outlook on life, and benevolent and giving spirit. He took great joy in “ visitation” supporting the Church “ behind the scenes” and opening his home to others. He taught Bible studyfor recoving alcoholics, supported benevolent  works for the poor and often opened his home to the homeless.He was loved by many and will be missed by all. He died peacefully in his sleep and is now in the glorious presence of God.He is preceeded in death by his Mother Gwendellyn, and Father  Maynard, a brother Carol and a son Dwight Spidel.He is survived by his wife Gloria whom he loved for 58 years, a brother Ted, and sisters Evelyn, Carolyn, and Joy. He leaves a heritage through three Spidel sons, Bruce of Terre Haute Indiana, Keith of Safety Harbor, Kurtis Spidel of Amarillo, Texas, 15 Grandchildren, Sarah, Joshua, Nicholas, Matthew, Samantha, Christopher, David, Timothy, Elizabeth, Kurtis Jr, Gracie, Mia, Wyatt, Lucie, and Charles, along with nine great grandchildren.There will be a memorial service at 11:00 AM  Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Faith Baptist Church, Amarillo Texas. A second Memorial Service will be held at Kendallville Indiana on Saturday  November 6, 2010 and thereafter interned at Woodruff Cemetery in Lagrange County Indiana; Pastor Kurtis Spidel will be Officiating.  MEMORIALS:Are to be given to Faith Baptist Church  7603 SW 77TH Avenue
